About Us
Ella Mitchell, Uki’s earliest local historian, began recording the village history in the 1940s. Ella’s notes and memos on butcher’s paper were held together by nappy pins and donated to the Society to become the beginning of our archives.
From 1983 – 88, residents allowed the Society to record their stories and photos for the archives at an annual picnic. These recordings are currently being digitised for access by the community.
Over the last four decades, we have continued to build the archives, hold exhibitions and help visitors with research on their families, buildings and the continuing history of Uki and the South Arm of the Tweed Valley.
We are a registered charity with the Australian National Charities Commission.
